Children’s & Family Care

At PDS we pride ourselves on being able to provide the best available dental care to you and all your family. We are particularly happy to treat children and start them on the road to early oral hygiene and preventative dental care from an early age.

The Practice is bright and modern and staffed by a friendly team and we have a large reception and waiting are which is ideally suited to those parents with children in pushchairs. We also have a small play area to help you keep young children occupied.

PDS benefits from being newly refurbished and is completely step-free and all located at street level making it easily accessible for those in wheelchairs or impaired mobility. We have two toilets in the reception area for patients, one of which is fitted as a disabled toilet.

PDS is located in the heart of Plumstead and immediately outside the practice are two disabled parking bays, a bus stop and free parking is available, for a limited time, along Herbert Road and on Eglinton Hill for an unlimited time.

Children’s Care

Children under the age of 18 are entitled to FREE dental care on the NHS.

PDS is happy to provide full NHS dentistry to your children. Their teeth and jaws are growing and developing all the time and should be monitored by their dentist to ensure that their development progresses normally. For this reason, we recommend that children visit the dentist twice a year. Your child should be brought to see the dentist as soon as their teeth begin to come through, which is usually at about 6 months of age. Bringing children to the dentist at an early age helps prevent dental phobia and promotes a good attitude to their oral health.

Our main focus for children is prevention and promotion of good oral health. When your child visits the dentist you can expect a full check-up and usually a fluoride varnish to be applied to your child’s teeth as well as helping to prevent tooth decay developing.

Fissure sealants are also a common treatment offered to children when their first adult teeth come through, usually at age 6. Again, this is a preventative treatment that reduces the risk of tooth decay.

Your dentist can offer dietary advice and educate your child about the importance of good oral hygiene. All of our staff at PDS enjoy working with children and have a wealth of experience in providing care to children, especially those who are nervous about visiting the dentist.

Family Dental Care

The entire family is welcome at PDS as individual patients or for family bookings where all members of your family are seen at the same time. Wherever possible we will endeavour to ensure that all members of your family are seen by the same dentist.

We aim to provide a lifelong dental care service to you and your family from young children right through to elderly patients who may require more regular and complex treatment.

PDS is here to help and we look forward to being your family dentist for many years to come.
